WB ready for further cooperation with Turkmenistan

The Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, Serdar Jorayev, held a meeting with the Executive Director of the World Bank, Dominique Favre, at which the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation and outlined further plans for cooperation, Anadolu agency writes.

One of the key topics was the COVID-19 response project in Turkmenistan, for which the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development allocated $20 million.

Joraev noted that a significant part of the allocated funds was successfully spent and aimed at strengthening the readiness of Turkmenistan to respond to the pandemic.

In turn, Favre noted that Turkmenistan is the leader in the region in the implementation of this project and stressed the readiness of the World Bank for further cooperation on the designated issue. In this regard, the possible extension of the project and additional funding in case of interest of Turkmenistan were discussed.

The parties noted that there are prospects for the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the World Bank in the field of green energy. In addition, the projects implemented by the World Bank in the countries of Central Asia - Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan can serve as an example of possible areas for further cooperation.
