Experts from the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) in Tashkent analyzed changes in freight turnover by all modes of transport for 2017-2022 in Uzbekistan, Nova24.uz reports.

The analysis showed that there was a significant increase in cargo turnover in Uzbekistan, from 66.9 billion km in 2017 to 75.2 billion km in 2022. In particular:

- freight turnover by rail increased from 22.9 billion km to 24.9 billion km;
- cargo turnover by road increased by almost 1.5 times and amounted to 20.2 billion km in 2022 against 13.6 billion km in 2017;
- cargo turnover by air increased almost 2 times - from 156.9 million km to 322.7 million km over the analyzed period.

It is noted that in the development strategy of the "New Uzbekistan" for 2022-2026, a number of measures were identified aimed at developing infrastructure and the transport services market.

In particular:

- organization of a network of transport and logistics centers, taking into account the main points of cargo formation in the regions;
- stage-by-stage transfer of documents of the international cargo transportations to an electronic format;
- development of existing container terminals on the basis of public-private partnership;
- increase in the share of container transportation by rail by at least 2 times.

The increase in cargo turnover is the result of the development of transport infrastructure and the liberalization of foreign trade activities in Uzbekistan, the report said.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan began to deliver goods to Europe. The first train will pass the route through the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea.
