Uzbekistan discuss an increase in oil and gas supplies from Russia

The possibility of increasing the supply of Russian oil and oil products to Uzbekistan was discussed at talks in Moscow between Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy of Russia Alexander Novak and Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, the press service of the Russian Government reports.

"The parties discussed issues of cooperation in the gas, oil, electric power industries, including RES (renewable energy sources) and hydropower projects, as well as in the field of nuclear construction," the report says, Sputnik reports.

In particular, during the meeting the officials discussed "the possibility of increasing the supply of oil and oil products to Uzbekistan." We also considered the prospects for Rosatom's participation in the construction of new nuclear power facilities.

"We highly appreciate the fraternal nature of Russian-Uzbek relations. Despite the ongoing geopolitical tension, Russian-Uzbek ties of strategic partnership and alliance are actively developing. Comprehensive work continues to expand and deepen bilateral cooperation," Novak said.

The Russian company Rosatom is already involved in a number of major energy projects in Uzbekistan. In particular, the company's experts take part in the implementation of the project for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Central Asia.

The TVEL company, part of the Rosatom corporation, is helping Uzbekistan decommission two storage facilities for radioactive waste belonging to the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.
