Tajikistan and Russia will be able to achieve a threefold increase in trade turnover, said Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, First Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Upper House) of the Majlisi Oli (Parliament) of Tajikistan, TASS reports.
"We now [trade turnover is] $ 1.5 billion. We will reach, God forbid, 5 billion, we will increase this turnover, we will increase it three times," he said at a meeting of the Commission for Cooperation of the Federation Council and the Majlisi Milli, held in Moscow .
Relations between Russia and Tajikistan "are distinguished by a high level of trust, consistent mutual support and friendship," said Ahmadzoda.
Ahmadzoda recalled that in 2022 Russia and Tajikistan celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. "Over this period, we have developed a solid baggage of interaction in various fields," he said, adding that inter-parliamentary relations have reached a qualitatively new level.
Russia and Tajikistan established diplomatic relations on April 8, 1992. Since then, the countries have concluded more than 300 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements. At the end of 2022, the volume of trade exceeded $1.67 billion.
