The average economic growth of Tajikistan in the past five years was provided at the level of 7.3%, and in 2022 - at the level of 8%. The volume of gross domestic product increased from 71 billion somoni in 2018 to 115 billion somoni in 2022, or increased 1.6 times in five years. The share of exports in foreign trade turnover increased from 20% to 31%, while the share of imports decreased from 80% to 69%.

Such information was provided during a meeting of the joint steering committee for the approval of the work plans of the “Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2023-2026” with the participation of the heads of ministries and departments of Tajikistan and representatives of UN agencies - members of the final groups of the UN Development Assistance Program in Tajikistan (UNSDCF), Tajik media reported.

As a result, over the past five years alone, import-substituting products worth more than 44 billion somoni have been produced in Tajikistan, which has led to a significant reduction in the dependence of the consumer market on imported products.

The meeting emphasized that this was the result of measures taken by the Government of Tajikistan in cooperation with UN agencies and other development partners of the country to ensure sustainable and balanced economic development during 2016-2020.

At a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavkizoda Zavqi Amin, UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan Sezin Sinanoglu congratulated the government of the republic on achieving significant development during the implementation of the UNDAF program for 2016-2020.
