The military contingents of Russia and Tajikistan have begun joint exercises at the Tajik Harb-Maidon training ground, 20 km from the border with Afghanistan. The development of practical actions will last until April 7, the press service of the Central Military District (CVO) reported, TASS reports.
“During the stages of practical actions, the military contingents of Russia and Tajikistan will work out the preparation and conduct of a joint operation to eliminate illegal armed formations (IAF) in mountainous terrain that have invaded the territory of the union state, as well as the management of units of joint forces in blocking and destroying illegal armed formations,” the message says.
The press service also clarified that the basis of the Russian military contingent is the units of the 201st military base with a total number of more than 300 people: mountain, motorized rifle, tank, artillery units, NBC protection units and mobile electronic warfare groups of the Central Military District.
The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is Russia's largest military facility outside its borders. It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It consists of motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance units, air defense units, NBC defense and communications units.
