As of January 1, 2023, the state debt of Kazakhstan amounted to 25.3 trillion tenge, the Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan Yerulan Zhamaubayev said in the Mazhilis (parliament), the Zakon.kz portal reports.

He also announced the amount of inefficiently used budget funds in 2022.

Zhamaubayev delivered a report of the Government of the country on the execution of the republican budget for 2022 in the Majilis.

"The amount of inefficient use of budget funds in 2022 amounted to 421 billion tenge, or 2.3% of the total expenditure. This is without taking into account the audit activities of the Supreme Audit Chamber and audit commissions. Measures have been taken to increase the responsibility of administrators for the effective and full development of budget funds. In general, budget revenues were executed by 102.1% and amounted to 16 trillion 142 billion tenge, Zhamaubayev said.

Expenses were executed for 18 trillion 532 billion tenge or 98.6%.

The budget deficit of Kazakhstan in 2022 amounted to 2 trillion 391 billion tenge or 2.4% of GDP.

"As of January 1, 2023, the public debt amounted to 25.3 trillion tenge or 24.9% of GDP. Of these, government debt amounted to 21.7% of GDP or 22 trillion tenge," Zhamaubayev emphasized.

Later, the chairman of the Supreme Audit Chamber of Kazakhstan, Natalya Godunova, noted that the state debt of Kazakhstan is within safe limits.

"The limit level is 32% by 2030. At the same time, it was formed in the amount of 24.6% of GDP. 25% of all revenues and 16% of the republican budget expenditures or 2.9 trillion tenge were used to repay and service loans. Now, if we talk about 25% of all income, we believe that this is still a lot. Well, there is a risk of an increase in government debt by 2030. We have a limit of 27% of GDP by the specified period. The volume of produced GDP of Kazakhstan in January-December 2022 amounted to 102,891,845.6 million tenge or $228.65 billion at the current exchange rate of the US dollar.

Compared to the corresponding period of 2021, GDP increased in real terms by 3.3%.
