UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, during her official visit to Kyrgyzstan, presented President Sadyr Japarov with a certificate on the inclusion of the manuscript of the epic "Manas" in the version of Sagymbay Orozbakov's manaschy in the list of intangible heritage, the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.
She emphasized with great satisfaction the active position of Kyrgyzstan in cooperation with UNESCO in the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of mankind. She outlined the wide variety of intangible heritage in Kyrgyzstan, noting the importance of preserving historical and cultural monuments of Kyrgyzstan for future generations.

The parties expressed their readiness to develop cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and UNESCO, and also discussed further plans for the implementation of joint programs.
The Kyrgyz epic "Manas" is the largest epic in the world and many times surpasses such world epics as "The Iliad" and "The Tale of Igor's Campaign". The epic "Manas" has several versions, the most famous of which were the versions orally performed by Sagymbay Orozbakov and Sayakbay Karalayev.
