In accordance with the decree signed by President Sadyr Zhaparov, aimed at all-round support for the transition process in Kyrgyzstan to the widespread use of renewable energy sources (RES), a permanent working group headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev has been created. It will deal with the development of renewable energy sources in Kyrgyzstan.

A meeting of the group was held in Bishkek with the participation of the heads of companies intending to implement projects in the country in the field of small hydropower plants, solar and wind power plants, as well as representatives of relevant government agencies. The meeting participants discussed the issues of efficient use of energy resources and transition to the use of renewable energy sources.

“Of course, the construction and commissioning of large hydroelectric power plants will take several years. In this regard, special attention is paid to the development of small hydropower plants and alternative energy sources. It should be noted that during the construction of small and alternative energy facilities, great importance will be given to the conservation of nature and compliance with environmental standards. Land transformation should be carried out in strict accordance with the law, and competitions should be transparent,” said the head of the working group, Torobaev.

Currently, 137 companies in Kyrgyzstan intend to implement projects for the construction of small hydropower plants, solar and wind power plants. According to experts, good conditions have been created for the launch of wind farms in the northern part of the country and solar power plants in the south. In addition to domestic investors, international financial institutions have expressed interest in financing projects in the field of renewable energy sources.
