The volume of crude oil production in Kyrgyzstan has increased in 2023, National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan reports.

In January-April 2023, 97.8 thousand tons of black gold were mined in Kyrgyzstan. This is 4.3% more than in the same period in 2022. Then, 93.8 thousand tons of raw materials were extracted from oil fields in Kyrgyzstan.

In total, in 2022, black gold production in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 295.1 thousand tons. Most of it is mined in the Jalal-Abad region in southern Kyrgyzstan. In the Ferghana Valley, where crude oil is produced, Uzbekistan also produces a large volume of crude oil.

Batken region of Kyrgyzstan is the second in terms of black gold production in the country. Crude oil production in this area in 2022 amounted to 11.8 thousand tons.

During independence, Kyrgyzstan built two oil refineries, the processing volume of which is estimated at 1 million tons of oil each. However, these plants process mainly imported oil, mainly from Kazakhstan. Since they produce less than a third of the country's total need for fuel, Kyrgyzstan is forced to import all types of fuel and lubricants from neighboring countries.

The total need of Kyrgyzstan for fuels and lubricants is more than 1 million tons per year. Kyrgyzstan purchases the entire volume of gasoline from Russia with a zero VAT rate.
