Fish production has doubled over the year in Kyrgyzstan, Minister of Agriculture Askarbek Dzhanybekov said at the first congress of fish farmers, processors and exporters of fish and fish products in Kyrgyzstan.
“The production of commercial fish in 2021 amounted to 10,344.2 tons, in 2022 already 20,729 tons. Fisheries is a branch of agriculture that has the potential to become one of the strategic sectors of the economy, a feature of which is self-sufficiency. This is one of the few areas where the role of the state is reduced primarily to regulation and rule-making. The absolute majority of the subjects of the fishing industry are private traders working in market conditions. There are problems with the observance of fish farms standards, there are problems with product quality control by the Veterinary Service. Our task today is to solve all the issues hindering the development of the sphere,” the minister said.
In February 2023, the Russian Rosselkhoznadzor applied to the Veterinary Service of Kyrgyzstan with a request to suspend the certification of trout and trout caviar sent to Russia.
Later, the ban was lifted from two enterprises - Aqua Prom LLC and Tien Shan Fish LLC.
