The Russian energy company Inter RAO began supplying electricity to Kyrgyzstan from April 2023. Until April 2024, the company plans to supply consumers in Kyrgyzstan with about 900 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, according to the Russian company Inter RAO.
“On April 15, 2023, for the first time in history, the supply of electricity from the UES of Russia to the energy system of Kyrgyzstan began in transit through the UES of Kazakhstan. The total planned supply for the period April 2023 to March 2024 is about 900 million kWh,” the company said.
Currently, deliveries are up to 400 MW per hour, but can be increased if the capacity of the transit energy system of Kazakhstan is increased. Inter RAO noted that the company can fully cover the energy deficit in Kyrgyzstan, which has already reached 3 billion kilowatt-hours.
In Kyrgyzstan, the capacities of energy generating companies are noticeably behind the needs.
The volume of electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan in 2022 amounted to 16,130 million kWh in 2022. At the same time, own production amounted to only 13,801 million kWh. Kyrgyzstan purchases the missing part of the electricity from its neighbors, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
According to forecasts, in 2024, electricity consumption in the country will reach 17,610 million kWh, with its own generation of 17,011 million kWh due to the launch of new energy capacities, mainly small hydroelectric power plants.
