The first test shipment of oil in the amount of 6,900 tons from the Kazkahstan's supergiant field Kashagan for export for further delivery to the Azerbaijani port of Baku has been successfully completed in the Kazakh port of Aktau on the Caspian Sea, KazTransOil reports.

The oil shipper is Tokyo-based INPEX North Caspian Sea Ltd, the report said.

According to Hiroshi Ikeda, director of the INPEX North Caspian Sea Ltd branch in Kazakhstan, the test shipment showed the possibility of diversifying export routes for Kashagan oil by rail transportation towards the Trans-Caspian route.

The representative of INPEX North Caspian Sea Ltd also said that the company will continue cooperation on the development of reserve export routes together with the government of Kazakhstan and the national oil company KazMunayGas.

The delivery of Kazakh oil via the new route was carried out by the tanker Akademik Khoshbakht Yusifzade, owned by the Marine Transport Fleet of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO).
