Iran is considering the possibility of directly importing gas from Turkmenistan, Deputy Oil Minister, General Director of the National Iranian Gas Company Majid Chegeni said, according to the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.
Negotiations are currently underway between Iran and Turkmenistan on this issue, the business.com.tm portal reported.
At the moment, Iran is participating in a deal on the exchange of gas from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, according to which Iran receives 10 million cubic meters. m of gas per day from Turkmenistan and delivers the same amount to Azerbaijan, the head of the Iranian Gas Company explained.
Recently, the Deputy Oil Minister of Iran said that Pakistan, Afghanistan and Oman have declared their readiness to receive gas from Iran.
The director general of the National Iranian Gas Company also stated that Turkey has expressed interest in increasing Iranian gas supplies, adding that experts from both sides are considering extending the existing gas contract.
Iran registered an increase in the volume of swap gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan in the previous year (ended in Iran on March 20, 2023), which shows an increase of 358% compared to the same period last year.
