The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has launched a mission to comprehensively review the nuclear infrastructure of Kazakhstan, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported.
“Today in Astana, IAEA experts launched the Kazakhstan Nuclear Infrastructure Integrated Review (INIR) Mission,” the statement said.
IAEA Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section experts Mehmet Ceyhan and Thibault Reiset, as well as UK external expert Stephen Mortin, plan to close the mission on 31 March. “In accordance with the recommendations of the IAEA, in the first phase of the development of a nuclear power program, before a decision is made to build a nuclear power plant, it is necessary to assess the state of the nuclear power infrastructure of Kazakhstan, which is an important tool for the development and implementation of the safe, reliable and sustainable use of nuclear energy,” the Ministry of Energy said.
