A regular joint meeting of the joint steering committee of Tajikistan and the UN agency was held to approve the Work Plans of the Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development for 2023-2026. The parties are members of the Outcome Groups of the United Nations Model Development Assistance Program in Tajikistan, Avesta reports.

The Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavki Zavkizoda, said at a meeting that over the past five years, the average annual growth of the country's economy has been achieved at the level of 7.3%, and in 2022 at the level of 8%.

According to the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, the country's gross domestic product from 71 billion somoni in 2018 reached 115 billion somoni in 2022 - with an increase of 1.6 times.

In addition, as a result of measures taken by the Government of Tajikistan in cooperation with UN agencies and other development partners of the country to ensure stable and balanced economic development in 2016-2020, the share of exports in foreign trade turnover increased from 20% to 31%, while the share of imports decreased from 80% to 69%.

As a result, over the past 5 years alone, more than 44 billion somoni worth of import-substituting products have been produced domestically, which has led to a significant reduction in the dependence of the consumer market on imported products.

The meeting participants expressed their readiness to increase assistance and further support in the direction of ensuring sustainable economic, social and environmental development of Tajikistan.
