The Russian transnational energy company Gazprom will become a sponsor of the championship of the Football Association of Central Asian countries, according to the Metaratings portal.
The tournament will be attended by member countries of the Football Association of Central Asia: Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan.
The Russian team has confirmed its participation in this tournament. In addition, it is planned to invite one of the other Asian teams, the report says.
The largest in the Central Asia football federation of Kazakhstan is not member of the Football Association of Central Asia. The Federation of Kazakhstan is a member of the UEFA European Football Association and therefore will not take part in the tournament.
The championship is scheduled to be held from 9 to 21 June in Bishkek and Tashkent.
According to the regulations, eight teams will be divided into two quartets of four teams each. The winners of the two groups will meet in the final. The teams finishing second in their quartets will compete for the third place.
In February 2022, the International Football Federation and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. On December 30, the Russian Football Union set up a working group to review the transition process from UEFA to the Asian Football Confederation.
