The European Union is building relations with Tajikistan at the political and economic level within the framework of the Multiannual Cooperation Program, as well as the EU Strategy for Central Asia, Sarah Rinaldi, Head of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the European Commission's Directorate General for International Cooperation, said in Dushanbe, Avesta reports.
The EU builds its activities mainly in three areas - firstly, an inclusive green and digital economy, secondly, human development, and thirdly, natural resource management, efficiency and sustainability. The EU has already allocated 91 million euros for budgetary support in these areas, Rinaldi said.
Poverty reduction and sustainable and inclusive growth remain key challenges in the Central Asian region and in particular in Tajikistan. In this regard, EU cooperation with Tajikistan is focused on supporting reforms in education, health and sustainable rural development, energy and water use, the EU representative stressed.
She also spoke about the EU participation in the construction of the Rogun HPP and the EU strategy towards Central Asia within the framework of the 5 + 1 format, aimed at further developing the region as a stable, more sustainable, prosperous and closely interconnected economic and political space.
