In Samarkand, representatives of the European Union, the French Development Agency and the government of Uzbekistan signed an agreement on financing and supporting Uzbekistan in the transition to a green economy, the Nova24.uz portal reports.
The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Director General for International Partnership of the European Commission Miriam Ferrand, Director General of the French Agency Remy Riou, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norkulov.
The strategy of Kazakhstan to preserve the environment provides for a period until 2030, for its implementation the EU and the FAR will allocate 375 million euros, of which 150 million have already been received by Kazakhstan.
In addition, joint events are planned to assist the authorities of Uzbekistan in ensuring economic growth, taking into account respect for the environment, which directly affects the well-being of the population of Uzbekistan.
The agreement also has the following objectives:
- compliance with high environmental standards;
- increasing the government's capacity to formulate and implement green economy policies;
- providing the population with sustainable jobs.
Earlier it was reported that the water supply system of the entire region of Uzbekistan would be transferred to a French company. The government of Uzbekistan signed agreements worth billions of dollars at the EBRD summit.
The EBRD also prepared an economic forecast for the development of Uzbekistan and Central Asia as a whole, which notes that the countries of the region are successfully enduring the war in Ukraine and knocking out pluses from the situation in Russia.
